Testing Architect - Electrochemistry & Corrosion

Amsterdam
Full-time
Permanent employee

The role

At Ore Energy, we are on a mission to fundamentally expand the amount of energy society can reliably harness and use, helping move civilization toward a more abundant energy future. We are doing this by developing long-duration, utility-scale iron-air batteries that provide safe, low-cost, multi-day energy storage for electricity grids and data centers.

We are expanding our product validation capabilities and are looking for a Testing Architect to join our team in Amsterdam. In this role, you will define the testing strategy and design the physical and digital test frameworks used to evaluate our battery cells, modules, and supporting systems.

Operating at the critical intersection of electrochemistry, hardware engineering, and data analytics, you will build and run highly efficient, cost-effective test setups. We are looking for a hands-on expert who understands battery behavior deeply, with specialized knowledge in electrochemistry and corrosion mechanisms, to help us validate product performance, durability, and safety under real-world conditions.

This role reports directly to the Chief Product Officer (CPO).

Key responsibilities

  • End-to-End Testing Strategy: Define and execute the validation plans for battery cells, modules, and systems, translating technical product requirements and failure modes into structured test protocols.

  • Cost-Effective Setup & Design: Concept, build, commission, and continuously improve mechanical, electrochemical, thermal, and environmental test setups, balancing technical quality with cost-efficiency.

  • Electrochemistry & Corrosion Focus: Develop highly repeatable test methods to evaluate cell chemistry, degradation pathways, and corrosion resistance of battery materials under long-duration cycling.

  • Automation & DAQ Integration: Select and integrate appropriate sensors, control hardware, and data acquisition (DAQ) systems; develop automated scripts for data logging, real-time monitoring, and result analysis.

  • Advanced Data Analysis: Analyze complex test data, isolate anomalies, and perform statistical evaluations to deliver clear, root-cause engineering recommendations and design feedback.

  • DFMEA & Quality Governance: Apply risk-based testing frameworks (DFMEA, Six Sigma, Design of Experiments) to define test acceptance criteria and build engineering confidence levels.

  • Lab Mentorship & Best Practices: Maintain a strong physical presence in the lab, establishing standard operating procedures (SOPs), calibration protocols, and mentoring engineers and technicians on data quality.

Your profile

  • Experience: 5+ years of hands-on product testing and validation experience in a complex hardware development environment.

  • Battery & Electrochemistry Expertise: Deep, practical understanding of battery systems, electrochemical principles, and specific validation methods for corrosion and chemical degradation.

  • Practical Setup Builder: Proven ability to independently design, wire, and build complex physical test setups from scratch, combining hardware sensors with software platforms.

  • Analytical & Statistical Strength: Strong background in data analysis, database structures, and statistical tools (Measurement System Analysis, process capability, or Python/MATLAB scripting for data processing).

  • Cost-Conscious Problem Solver: Highly practical, resource-efficient, and capable of constructing clever, reliable experimental setups without relying on bloated, expensive commercial turnkey solutions.

  • Industry Background: Experience in batteries, electrochemical energy storage, electric vehicles, or highly corrosive hardware environments is highly valuable.

  • Communication: Flawless professional English. Able to simplify massive, complex test datasets into punchy, actionable takeaways for multidisciplinary engineering teams.

About us

The Challenge We Are Solving

Do you want to contribute to one of the most important challenges of our time: accelerating the energy transition? Are you excited by breakthrough energy storage technology with real-world impact? Would you like to be part of a mission-driven company where your work directly contributes to building the future of clean energy?

Then we are looking for you.

Ore Energy develops long-duration energy storage solutions to support a reliable, zero-carbon electricity system.

Powering the Next Generation of Infrastructure

The electricity grid is undergoing its most significant transformation in a century. As renewables become the cheapest source of new power, the challenge is no longer producing clean energy, it is making it reliably available when and where it is needed, regardless of when the sun shines or the wind blows. Our iron-air batteries are uniquely designed to store renewable energy over multi-day periods, allowing clean electricity to become a dependable, around-the-clock backbone of the grid while reducing reliance on fossil-fuel peaker plants and building a more resilient, fully decarbonized power system.

This is a rare opportunity to join a company at the moment when technology readiness, customer traction, and market demand are converging. Ore Energy has already raised significant capital, built and tested its technology under real-world conditions, and is now moving toward large-scale commercial deployment. As we transition into this industrial implementation phase, we are building the team, systems, and capabilities required to scale our solution and help define how long-duration storage powers both the future grid and the next generation of industry and data infrastructure.

Our Culture & Beliefs

We believe impactful technology is built by talented people who are motivated by complex challenges, scientific rigour and strong execution. That is why we are looking for dedicated professionals who want to help shape a cleaner and more resilient energy future.

At Ore Energy, we are committed to fostering an inclusive and diverse workplace where every individual has the opportunity to thrive. We believe that diversity of thought, background, and experience drives innovation and success. Are you unsure if you meet all the requirements? Please do apply, we’d love to hear from you! Your unique perspective and skills could be exactly what we’re looking for.
